For the sixth consecutive year, Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA)’s top students have been accepted by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. The class of 2017 achieved a 100% pass rate, with an average mean score of 36.25. This continues the trend of increased scores from previous years. 6 VSA graduates scored 44 out of 45 points and 19 (~24%) in total achieved at least 40 points in their IB results.
One of the VSA IB diploma graduates scored 44 out of 45 points in his IB. Liu has decided to study physics at the University of Oxford. Since joining VSA in year 11, Liu has developed critical thinking skills and shown great improvement in English. “The ability to think critically is vital as it allows me to tackle problems from different perspectives. I believe the skill set I acquired at VSA will serve as a solid foundation as I pursue the study of physics at Oxford.” He added.
Another VSA graduate, Wong, has chosen to study psychology at the University of Cambridge. She began her studies through VSA in kindergarten at the Victoria Educational Organisation. As the Head Prefect of the school, Wong believes that her passion and curiosity for learning are the reasons behind her achievements. She thanked the school for helping her to develop a balanced lifestyle, which will be crucial as she embarks on new adventure at Cambridge. Wong scored 42 points in her IB results.
“The resounding success of VSA students on the IB Diploma examinations again this year is a tribute to our students’ commitment and our teachers’ dedication.” remarks Dr. Judith Guy, Head of the Academy and Secondary Principal at Victoria Shanghai Academy. “VSA has a high academic expectation on our students. We are proud to see over 30% of our large cohort took up the challenge of bilingual diplomas, which proves the solid bilingual foundation they attained throughout their education at VSA. The close alignment of VSA curriculum and philosophy with IB principles and practices ensures that VSA remains one of the top IB World Schools in Hong Kong.”
VSA’s graduating class is set to establish themselves further as global cosmopolitans. Their education will continue at universities around the world. Students going to the UK will attend King’s College London, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and Durham University. Students continuing their education in the US will attend Boston University, New York University, Northeastern University, and the University of Southern California. Students moving to Canada will attend McGill University, Simon Fraser University, and the University of British Columbia. In Australia students will attend Sydney University. Graduates planning to study in Hong Kong will attend the University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
