Whenever parents think of a boarding school in U.K. with strong academic result, fantastic facilities and caring teachers and pastoral care, Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate would be your ideal list option. Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate comprises four schools and a kindergarten, each with its unique qualities, but all sharing a common purpose of providing students with a first class education and the opportunity to work towards higher education and a successful career. There are strong academic standards across the Foundation and students are encouraged to have high expectations for their achievement and career prospects. There is a very wide curriculum available, which enables students to pursue their individual interests and aspirations across a range of fields, alongside a vast array of extra-curricular opportunities which enable students to widen their experience and gain both skills and confidence.
Visitors to QE often remark on the productive and cheerful atmosphere that pervades and the purposefulness of the pupils as they enjoy the considerable opportunities that the environment provides. We welcome you to come and see for yourself what makes QE special and its pupils so successful.
For students from 14 to 19, the College follows a traditional curriculum of GCSEs and A Levels for students who are looking for pace and academic rigour, and who have high aspirations for university, either in the UK or abroad.
The Faculty of Queen Ethelburga's
For students from 14 to 19 the Faculty offers a wider curriculum, including academic, creative and vocational options, for those who are looking for a more individual approach to course selection and a supportive environment in which to learn. Unlike most schools we do not believe that a vocational qualification is 'second class'; indeed, we are proud to say that our best performing student in 2015 gained 5 Distinction* (the equivalent of 5 A* at A-level) and is now going on to study Nursing at university.
The expectation is that all students, irrespective of which senior school they choose will be equipped to move on to higher education - whether this is at university or within a specialised college.
Students and staff at QE are once again celebrating results that see us near the top of national academic league tables. Once again we have a 100% pass rate for both schools.
“The quality of this year’s results is wonderful and rewards our students’ hard work and conscientiousness with excellent university places and opportunities for the future. The strong partnership between staff and students is key to our success and I congratulate them all,” said Principal, Steven Jandrell.
Students in QE’s College, which follows a more traditional, academic curriculum, returned 87% of A level grades at A* or A and 98% of grades at A*to B. An impressive 78 of the 128 students achieved 3 or more A* or A grades at A level. Last year’s rankings saw the College named the top school in the North of England and the second placed co-educational day and boarding school in England based on A level results.
Faculty pupils, who can take more vocational BTECs alongside A-Levels, celebrated 84% of A level grades at A* or A and 96% of grades at A*to B. 91% of BTECs taken in the Faculty were awarded a Distinction * or Distinction grade – the equivalent of A* and A grades at A-Level in UCAS points. The Faculty was ranked as the second placed school co-educational day and boarding school in the North of England based on A level results.

Voice from parents
Anita York, parent of a King's Magna pupil and a College student
If I ever think an issue needs addressing I find out that the staff have got there before me and have already started work on it. The facilities are unbelievable and I feel very lucky that my children have been fortunate enough to attend such a happy, inspiring and caring school as QE.
Michelle Duff, parent of a King's Magna pupil and a Chapter House pupil
What I think makes the school stand out is the pastoral care. The children and parents have a great sense of belonging. There is a relaxed approach to parents and nothing is too much trouble. If we have ever had any issues, we have been able to see the teacher straight away and the matter or concern is dealt with in a positive and professional manner. Our children are very happy at QE and to us that is the best basis for learning and achieving.
