Education Ladder is pleased to conduct an interview with IMI University Centre Switzerland and we are glad to explore issues that are of high concerns to the secondary school /high school students who plan to study abroad and to choose Switzerland as a country to pursue higher education in the hospitality field. 

Q) What is the key mission of IMI University Centre?

Q) As IMI University Centre Switzerland offers the International Hospitality courses, any special requirement for students to get admitted to this course?  What is the total tuition?

A) IMI University Centre offers a wide variety of quality programmes to our students ranging from undergraduate programmes to postgraduate programmes.  Undergraduate Programmes range from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management to International Culinary Arts (offered by IMI’s International Culinary Institute).

In terms of Postgraduate Programmes, IMI also offers an MBA in International Hospitality Management, IMI Luzern MBA with four different pathways of focus: Swiss Hotel Management Operations / Sustainable Hotel and Tourism Management / Social Media Marketing / Luxury Brands and Services Management, and Master of Arts in Conference Management, Tourism Management.

Students applying for the Undergraduate programmes at IMI should have an IELTS of 5.0 or TOEFL IBT 59 or equivalent certification and must be at least 17 years of age. For students enrolling in the Postgraduate programmes, they should have an IELTS of 6.0 to 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 79 to 89 and a holder of a Bachelor’s degree.

Q) Will you offer internship program to the overseas students?  What is the graduation rate?

A) IMI prides itself in having a dedicated team to support all our students for careers and internship opportunities and provide personalised one-on-one advice and counselling service. Moreover, each student enrolled in the undergraduate programmes at IMI are required to undergo two paid internships to graduate. Just to name a few companies: Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, Kempinski hotels etc prefers IMI interns and graduates.

Due to the intimate and family-like atmosphere at IMI, students receive all the necessary individualised support from IMI’s academic team to ensure that their studies are progressing smoothly and that they live up to the expectations of IMI and to prepare them for their careers.

The undergraduate programme is approximately 95.8% and for IMI’s postgraduate programme, the passing rate is 91%.

News Highlight

 IMI has begun an ambitious new project to refurbish every bedroom on its Kastanienbaum campus. This follows on from a campus-wide wi-fi upgrade that was carried out in the second half of 2014 improving both speed and range of connectivity for our students. The first stage of this new project is due to commence in February 2015 and we aim to have all 110 rooms completed by July. This refurbishment will bring a light, modern and more colourful feel to our rooms and equip them with facilities and amenities that combine both practicality and comfort. The colour schemes, material used and layout was voted upon by IMI’s current students to ensure maximum satisfaction for our students. Each room will be fitted with new beds, desks, shelves and cupboards and will feature colour schemes decided on in consultation with our students. New flooring will be laid and state-of-the-art LED lighting installed in all rooms.
