Steeped in history, Kowloon Rhenish School offers students a campus of 18,000 square feet – shared by the kindergarten and primary section – and enjoys a good reputation. 65.5% and 26.5% of graduates were successfully admitted to Band 1 and 2 secondary schools respectively in the academic year 2012-13. Kowloon Rhenish School, with its assuring secondary admission results, is a private primary school very popular located in Sham Shui Po.
Last week, a carnival was held in Kowloon Rhenish School in celebration of its 55th Anniversary, which gathered many alumni, parents and students that came to enjoy a fun afternoon. Clatters of chatter intermingled with the rattles of laughter, filling in the space. Kowloon Rhenish School puts heavy emphasis on project learning. Students, for instance, will be asked to participate in projects and fieldtrips in General Studies, so they can develop different skill-sets and critical thinking skills through conducting scientific experiments. In English lessons, students will take part in oral practices and story-telling activities. To instill in young children a love for reading, students will be divided into groups during Chinese lessons for reading activities. Kowloon Rhenish School also provides students with integrated art classes, and each student is required to take up one sport or aesthetic activity. Every year, during the school anniversary carnival, students are seen performing Chinese dance, martial arts and percussion confidently on the stage; parents, in this special occasion, can also take a look at students’ academic projects – colorful and of decent quality – hung in every classroom.
Apart from intellectual development, Kowloon Rhenish School is also focused on providing students with the best moral education. Materials for civic and moral education classes are specially designed by our teachers, who have incorporated into the curriculum positive values and whole-person education, so students can feel loved, valued and respected at school. This is the very reason why our students are always well-mannered, happy and smiling. Every month, parents will be invited to sharing sessions, held in the form of a church gathering, to share with everyone their experience in parenting. These sharing sessions not only help parents discipline and communicate with their children, but also deal with their emotional problems better.
The number of places for primary one admission is 100 in total, fought by 1,000 prospective applicants. About 50-60% of the places, however, will be reserved for graduates of our affiliated kindergarten; this left the number of places for open admission 50-60. Competition is therefore fierce. In the respect of admission requirements, Kowloon Rhenish School said they are looking for students who perform well in interviews, which will be conducted in groups. Students will be asked to answer questions related to their daily life; their social skills will also be tested during group activities.
